Cleanings
The Pinedo team cares about your mouth and we know that the best way to maintain a bright, beautiful smile is to schedule at least two regular cleanings (prophylaxis), per year. Even with daily brushing and flossing, plaque and tarter attaches to the teeth and gumline, resembling the calcium deposits that can be seen forming around a faucet. Like barnacles that collect on the bottom of a boat, the longer the tarter is allowed to sit there, the more difficult it is to remove.
Regular cleanings remove those tarter deposits and plaque full of bacteria and also give us an opportunity to detect any problems that may be forming in their early stages.
Some patients may require a Deep cleaning procedure, which is performed under anesthetic when more advanced gum disease is present. Harmful bacteria and other deposits that form in the pockets below the gumline are cleaned thoroughly. If left untreated, it will eventually lead to bone loss and tooth loss. A hygienist will perform a general cleaning and then, with the affected area numb, gently perform deep scaling and root planning to sanitize the problem areas. Then and only then can the surrounding tissue heal properly and the destruction of supportive bone stop.
The more often you get your teeth cleaned, the easier it becomes, especially with the assistance of numbing gels and rinses. Walking out of our office with a fresh sparkling smile is a luxurious feeling. Many of our patients have told us that they look forward to their cleanings as they would a massage or a spa treatment.
Don’t put it off any longer. Call (310) 530-8800 or schedule a cleaning to keep your smile bright and healthy.
