Crowns/Bridges
A dental Crown is an effective procedure to protect an at-risk tooth from fracturing. There are many common causes of tooth fracture. Tooth grinding, chewing hard foods, Cracked Tooth Syndrome, and large fillings all weaken a tooth’s structure, are but a few. Active lifestyles can also present fracturing risks; ask any Rugby player. A Crown acts as a permanent protective shield against further damage that looks and feel just like a natural tooth. They can save a damaged tooth while retaining the maximum possible natural tooth structure. Crowns can last for up to 20 years if taken care of properly and can be easily replaced.
A Bridge is a faster alternative to a dental Implant, commonly used to replace a missing tooth. The two adjacent teeth are crowned and the lab fabricates the missing tooth. They are attached together to bridge the empty space. Flossing a Bridge can be challenging and they are known to be more difficult to keep clean. In the case of missing teeth, Dr. Pinedo generally prefers the Implant option, but for some patients, a Bridge might be the preferred course
of treatment.
Regular check-ups can identify a weakened, at-risk tooth, and there is never a convenient time to have a tooth fracture. Don’t put it off- the time for a Crown repair isn’t in the middle of a vacation or the night before your wedding or mile seven in a Marathon.
